Ridley Park History
Some Ridley Park History. Ridley Park was established in 1873 and was incorporated and left Ridley Township in 1887. Ridley Park is a separate Boro today and has a population of 7400. Isaac Hinckley was the president of the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad in 1865. He had the idea to create Ridley Park. In 1870, they decided to build a new route for the railroad from Philadelphia to Chester. This new route would be called the "Darby Improvement" and would cut through Ridley and Darby Townships. At first, Hinckley wanted to build his new town in Sharon Hill, but because he bought one farm, the area farmers would not sell him any more property. So, he decided to build the town in Ridley Township.
