Here's some Plymouth Meeting History
Laid out by William Penn in 1686, Plymouth Township is 98 years older than Montgomery County, which was established in 1784. Members of the "Society of Friends", or Quakers originally settled the township. They sailed over from Devonshire, England. The township got its name from their hometown of Plymouth in Devonshire. What is today Germantown Pike was laid out in 1687 as a "cart road" from Philadelphia to Plymouth Meeting. This road was not exactly finished until 1804. A road from Plymouth Meeting to Gwynedd was built in 1751. What is today called Chemical Road, following Plymouth Creek, was opened in 1759 to give access to a new grist mill.
